Notes from the Jurassic Park chronology
This episode was an interactive special which allowed viewers to
choose between two options of what decision camp leader Darius
should make at a number of different points as the story
progresses, similar to a "choose your own adventure" book.
Several of the possible choices lead to the death of Darius
and/or other campers, while several other choices allow survival
with various other possible benefits by the end. Because of
these multiple choices and multiple endings, it is difficult to
establish the definitive story for this episode in the Camp
Cretaceous chronology. Of course, it's safe to assume one
of the stories that ends with all of the kids surviving is the
one "true" one. PopApostle will cover all the possibilities here
and let the reader/viewer decide. If the viewer watches every
decision branch and every conclusion, the episode runs 1 hour
and 26 minutes.
Though this "lost episode" was released after the main
Camp Cretaceous series had completed all five of
its seasons, comments by the characters in the story seem to
place it in between the end of the second season and the
beginning of the third. Comments by the producers of the show
also seem to support this, though they also fudge on whether the
episode is actually canon at all.
This episode was removed from its home on Netflix on December 1,
2024, making it unavailable for viewing officially. An unofficial
preservation (somewhat low-res) copy can be viewed at the
Internet Archive.
Didja Know?
Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous is a CG-animated TV
series that aired on the
Netflix
streaming service from 2020-2022 for five seasons and one
special. While the first couple of episodes take place before
and during the events of
Jurassic World,
the rest of them take place shortly after that film, and about
three years before the events of
Fallen Kingdom. Netflix is currently producing episodes
of a sequel series, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, whose
first season began in May 2024.
Each episode of the
series opens with the words "A Netflix Original Series" over
what appears to be a T. rex footprint in the jungle mud.
The
Universal Pictures logo that appears after this is altered
from the usual to have the Earth globe with a continent that
looks very roughly like the supercontinent Pangaea may have
looked in the Triassic-Jurassic periods of the Mesozoic era,
200-150 million years ago.
As the Universal Earth globe spins, a second "continent"
seen is actually a stylized
DreamWorks Pictures logo (a boy sitting with a fishing pole
on the crescent Moon), followed by the
Amblin Entertainment logo.
The dinosaur that bursts out of the
Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous gates at the beginning of
the opening titles of each episode is a Tyrannosaurus rex,
possibly the infamous Rexy herself, but we don't see its right
side close enough to see if it has Rexy's raptor scars incurred
in Jurassic Park.
The voice of former Jurassic World employee Hal Brimford in this
episode is
provided by Bill Nye (better known by his science educator
persona of "Bill Nye the Science Guy").

Didja Notice?
The first dinosaur Darius sees when he awakens at the beginning
of the episode is a
Monolophosaurus. This species goes on to make a
few more appearances in
Camp Cretaceous and Chaos Theory.
The dinosaur herd Ben discovers is made up of Gallimimus.
The
Gallimimus herd is attacked by a flock of
Pteranodons.
After the
Pteranodon attack, a pair of Baryonyx
approach the slaughter of the Gallimimus
herd. From their coloration, the pair appear to be Chaos and
Limbo, siblings who appeared in a few second season
episodes. The pair's third sibling, Grim, was killed in
"Chaos Theory".
The video camera Darius has acquired contains footage of the
Velociraptor pack of Blue, Delta, Echo, and Charlie.
When the campers decide to go look for Brimford's secret stash
of food and leave Bumpy behind for reasons of speed, Bumpy is seen sleeping
in the middle of the dirt clearing in front of the treehouse.
But seconds later, she is suddenly depicted sleeping right next
to the jungle foliage.
Brimford's note to Owen Grady tells him to go to the Hidden
Adventure if he ever feels unsafe on the island. The kids wonder
what the Hidden Adventure is and Sammy says they could probably
find out from a copy of a book she reminds the rest about that
contained all sorts of facts about Jurassic World. This book was
An
Insider's Guide to Jurassic World and was seen in
"A Beacon of Hope".
This adventure is the first and only appearance of a living
Tarbosaurus in the Jurassic Park/World universe to date
(though two of them are depicted in a large, painted mural in a
scene in Fallen Kingdom).
Here, the species is depicted with spikes along the backbone,
but this is not known in real world fossil specimens.
An
Insider's Guide to Jurassic World reveals to the
campers that
Brimford was a close friend of John Hammond. Hammond, of course,
was the founder of InGen and the original Jurassic Park.
The campers drive a few gyrospheres
to the location of the Hidden Adventure amusement park, passing
through a herd of Brachiosaurus on the way.
A set of water-vomiting Dilophosaurus statues is seen
in the Hidden Adventure park.
When the other kids start to force off the restraint bars on the
roller coaster carts, Sammy says, "You can't do that. Can
they do that?" she is unknowingly mimicking the lawyer Gennaro
in Jurassic Park when he says the
same thing as Drs. Grant, Sattler, and Malcolm force up the
restraint bars on the laboratory tour ride.
The code to open Brimford's bunker turns out to be "2005", the
year Jurassic World is said to have opened.
Brimford's desk in his bunker has small statues of
Tyrannosaurus rex and Stegosaurus, and a bust of a
Brachiosaurus. There is also a plastic mold of the
resonating chamber of a Velociraptor skull (like the
one seen in Jurassic Park III). Another
T. rex statue and
resonating chamber mold is seen on a toy shelf, as a well a toy
Mosasaurus (with another Mosasaurus toy on a
book shelf).
A painting or print of a T. rex racing through a flock
of what appear to be Dimorphodons is seen hanging on a
wall in the bunker. A large model of a Pteranodon
skeleton is hanging from the ceiling in a flying position.
When Kenji suggests they all just move into the bunker, Ben
points out that it's a little tight for all of them, adding,
"And trust me, Bumpy does not like sharing her sleeping spot."
This refers back to the telling of Ben and Bumpy's ordeals in
survival when they were separated from the rest of the campers,
and Bumpy was constantly bulking Ben out of the sleeping spot in the
jungle, as seen in "Brave".
The robotic carnivorous dinosaur that "attacks" the vehicle on
the Hidden Adventure Jeep ride appears to be based on
Ceratosaurus.
Ben refers to compys as "raptor rats".
The horned dinosaur the campers find sleeping in the security
tunnels appears to be a Centrosaurus.
After watching all the possible choice combinations of the
story, there are three positive-outcome endings, i.e. none of
the campers dies. 1) escape the Hidden Adventure without
supplies, 2) escape the Hidden Adventure with a few supplies, 3)
ending in the bunker with some supplies and the option to go
back for more supplies. #3 is probably the most positive ending,
but the bunker is never mentioned in any of the regular
episodes, so it seems an unlikely scenario. #2 seems the most
acceptable, with the campers bringing back enough supplies to
get by for a short time, but leaving the story in the
appropriate place for the beginning of Season Three, where they
are seen scrounging.
